Christine Grumm, President and CEO of the Women’s Funding Network, has more than three decades of experience as a leader in affecting social change through civil society, and especially through women’s philanthropy. Chris passionately believes in the power of women and girls’ solutions and is dedicated to helping unleash that potential to help transform the world.

A brief history

Forty years ago, despite growing interest and activism around opportunities and human rights for women and girls, there were no funding organizations dedicated to women's leadership and causes. Now, the Women's Funding Network consists of 133 such organizations called women's funds -- in the US and across the globe -- all championing investment in women and girls.

How Did We Get Here?

In 1972, Gloria Steinem and her co-editors at Ms. Magazine started the Ms. Foundation for Women. It was the first and largest national women's fund. Their aim was to redistribute profits from Ms. Magazine to the grassroots women’s movement.
